المستخلص

Face-to-face debates between candidates are crucial events in the Spanish political landscape, especially in the lead-up to elections. Among their most notable moments is the “golden minute,” a brief but powerful space where each candidate faces the challenge of consolidating their message, connecting with the audience, and mobilizing the vote. In this limited time frame, every word counts, every gesture matters, and effective time management contributes to the construction of a memorable message that can decisively influence the electoral outcome. This article examines the strategic use of language and communication dynamics in the “golden minute” of the televised debate between Pedro Sánchez (PSOE) and Alberto Feijóo (PP) prior to the Spanish general elections on July 23, 2023. Through a critical discourse analysis, it compares the linguistic and rhetorical resources used by both speakers in this decisive closing segment, as well as non-verbal communication strategies, highlighting how their gestures, expressions, and postures contribute to the construction of their credibility and emotional connection with the audience. This study emphasizes the relevance of words and body language in shaping public image in an increasingly competitive and polarized electoral context.
