المستخلص

Based on the contrastive analysis of a corpus of French-Arabic economic texts, this research has two objectives. The first is linguistic and consists of identifying correspondences and non-correspondences between frozen expressions in the two languages: French and Arabic. The second is pedagogical, involving the design of interactive exercises aimed at improving the acquisition of French-Arabic idioms.
The research methodology is based on the extraction of frozen expressions: idiomatic expressions, collocations and terminological metaphors from a bilingual French-Arabic corpus of one million words of text from the websites of the World Bank, the UN and the IMF (the corpus dates from 2008 to 2012). Fixed expressions were extracted using a semi-automatic method based on concordances. Linguistic findings revealed the influence of French on the structure of economic expressions in Arabic, through the frequency of expressions modelled on those of French.
Similarly, it was found that the literal translation of certain terminological metaphors respects the images of French metaphors because both languages draw from the same background of universal figures. The translation of certain terminological metaphors follows the procedure of explanatory paraphrase while omitting images.
This descriptive approach to the use of frozen expressions and the implementation of interactive exercises for third-year students taking an economic translation course will help improve the quality of economic translation into Arabic, especially given the lack of specialized bilingual dictionaries for this type of phraseology.
